for the Occasion of Kenton’s Graduation from High School

This son of my own lineage here crowned

By new emerging of a branch unbent

Will join a war from ages past unspent,

Still raging on the world its battleground,

And there confront the foes of unspoiled youth.

They’ll find him not a simple babe, all weak

Before their wiles, but fully man. Though meek,

He’ll walk a lion panoplied with truth.

With lion’s heart he’ll brave the evil day

And scorn all needling clamor to be small.

With lion’s roar he’ll laugh at strutting gall

And warn his brethren from the evil way.

Lord, spare him from a life of vanity.

A testament of faith his life shall be.
